Glee (season 4)

So, a lot of TV-shows lately and there is one more to go after this one before I’m finished for a while. As for my baking fans; don’t worry! I have a plan for a new recipe and if it succeeds you will be seeing it on Monday. Way back in October I reviewed the first three seasons of Glee, if you have missed it then I suggest you check it out.

Glee is a joyful musical show focusing on different characters that teenagers can identify themselves with. It is set in a high school where the characters are all part of a glee club. This season we also Get to see the characters that have graduated as well as the new ones who just joined the glee club.

I am conflicted, because I do believe that glee is good in some aspects. The actors can actually sing and it’s not all auto tune (see live performances if you don’t believe me) which I appreciate since auto tune may make songs sound funny but I still value talent over it. Sure some songs are miserable fails but some are actually very good (ex the scientist (originally by Coldplay.) Another good thing is the positivity and their attempt to create relatable characters.

To the bad parts… Over the last few seasons all the focus was on some selected members from the glee club. The seniors got pretty much all the attention. I did not like many of the oldest characters, but I thought it was still all good since I thought that the others would get their time. Unfortunately I was wrong, the attention went to the ones who had already graduated and the newcomers and that is fine, but it was not what I wanted to see, especially not after three years of focusing on the seniors. This gave us a messy plot which I did not like at all.

As far as creating believable and good characters I was really impressed some years ago. Now? Not so much, sure to make the characters work on TV you have to heighten their personalities but that actually makes them less relatable. Many can probably identify with wanting to reach fame. But does that mean that they would relate to an annoying girl who is impossibly full of herself. Or the gay guy (Kurt) is another one many could identify with. But adding a flamboyant over girly and stereotypical personality to him and I don’t think that he is as good anymore. I mean seriously! Most homosexuals are not like him and sure it could be fun to see “the fabulous gay boy stereotype”, but TV has already done this immensely.

Actually I have a lot to say about this show, a lot. So much that I could lead a debate on it. But I won’t bore you so, do you agree, disagree have anything special on your mind. Hit the comments! Glee is still a decent fairly original show, but I really hope they improve their next season. 6 / 10

A little comment on the song: This is one of the best ones glee covered and I only like one song by Coldplay and it was not The Scientist because before Glee’s cover I had never heard it. I was struck by the power in the song and I think Glee did a good job in making it unique and that is basically how I think any cove should be. That was not a little comment either now was it? Well I’ll be quiet and let you enjoy the music.

Glee

The show is from 2009 – 2012, it aired for 3 seasons so far and season 4 has just started. The show is about a teacher and his students. In the first episode a teacher arrives to a high school where he wants to start a glee club. He has an audition and afterwards the show mainly focuses on the glee members and some teachers. The glee members are faced bulling in their school since the poplar kids thing it’s stupid to be in a glee club and wanting to sing in national competitions.

The show is kind of a mix between drama, humor, family and a musical. Every episode the glee club does covers of at least 3 different songs, some quite similar to the original ones and some are almost completely remade, but all of them are narrowed down from its original lengths to not make the songs overtake the show.  Sometimes the songs are excellent and sometimes they are not suitable for everyone’s taste but overall they do a good job with not making all the songs the same.

The characters are though through and they make sure that they have something for everyone. The show usually focus a bit more on some characters than others, but every now and then you get to see some of the background characters taking up more space than the main characters.

The show in itself might not be something that everyone finds great but it has a good message to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in and therefor the sow gets 7 / 10 for me and I will definitely be back with a review ones season 4 has finished airing.
