Fast and Furious 6

One of the most famous action movie franchises have returned back to the big screens with its 6th installment! So brace yourself for two hours of action if you are planning to hit the theaters to see some fast cars in action.

The crew is gathered together again, and this time they will be working with the police and catch a mastermind named Shaw. If they succeed all their criminal records will be swiped away and they will all go free.

There is a certain mood you need to be in to like movies like this; you need to let the action scenes capture you and yon need to like the characters. In the beginning of the movie I was not in that mood at all, I have always loved the franchise but there was nothing joyous about this one. For the first hour I barely cared about the movie at all and I thought to myself is this what the Fast and Furious movies have ended up like? Then after the first hour something spiked and I was suddenly in the mood to watch a kick-ass action movie.

That was exactly what I got and once I was in the mood to watch it everything was perfect again. The characters were lovely as always, the action scenes and the visuals were stunning and I actually started to like the plot a lot as well. The movies believability is extremely low just as the previous movies, it is full of action packed scenes that are not realistic at all that are completely mind-blowing and leaves you loving the movie.

I assume the final conclusion to be that you should see this movie when you want to see it, with a popcorn bag ready and a good friend and then you will have reached the optimal situation to watch a movie like this. 9 / 10

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

I finally feel that I have played the game enough to be able to review it. Tekken is a series of fighting games were different characters fight against each other to win a tournament. The game can be played by yourself or with up to four players at the same time. The game was released last year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

The game has a lot of plusses and minuses. The graphics look a lot better but I sometimes felt that the characters looked a bit to shiny. They managed to fit a lot of characters into the game but they were all unlocked from the beginning which I did not think was particularly fun. The gameplay is on a similar level to what it has always been, at least when you play the arcade mode. When you go online and play ghost battles here is a problem with the game. There are attacks that can drain over 50% of your characters health, but they you just get up again right? Wrong, characters can juggle you character countless of times meaning that you might never get a chance to fight pack and the “don’t kick someone who is already down” policy does not exist here.

Example of a character who looks a bit to shiny.

I can get that to a certain extent and it has been like this in many of the previous Tekken games as well, but I feel that its way more in this game and it kind of kills the feeling. In many modes one can learn about the basics of the game and it’s not impossible for a button masher to win some fights. Personally I have never really been a button masher; I don’t know all the moves the character has because I think that kills the feeling. If you have studied the combat styles so much that you know everything then I don’t think the game is so much fun, you have become more of a robot who plays the game automatically. I know some character moves, and I do my fair amount of strategical guesses when I play and don’t just press the buttons randomly. My style is a problem in this game as it wants you to learn more moves and it kind off pressures you to become a more advanced player than the previous games have been doing.

The customization is a lot of fun and you can give the characters you personal twist, but sometimes I am not so much of a fan. Sur it is fun to see the ridiculous outfits some have come up with but is sometimes feel like “let’s make the girls look like strippers and the guys look like pink fairies with wings, oh and why don’t we give the characters an ice-cream to hold in their hand as they perform an uppercut?!” You get the idea and sure I think it’s a nice addition but it gets a bit too much at times and the characters can look really tacky.

I’m not even sure who this character even is with all pinkness going on and turning a tough guy into this is just not a good match.

Panda usually wears nothing, but not anymore and he just looks sad…

I won’t bore you with my long rant so I guess you can say that I think the game contradicts itself many times. It has a bit of everything but I don’t think they mixed it in the best way they could. Still this is one of my favorite game series and I will love Namco forever for making it and just because of that this game might get a higher score than it actually deserves… 8 / 10

Traveling

Tonight I will be going to Croatia for 11 days. I have 7 posts that will be published in the automatic publicizer. The days that won’t be updated are Saturday the 29th, Sunday the 30th, Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th. The 7th of July is also the day that I will be home by. Tough I’m not sure if I’ll have a new update ready on the Monday or Tuesday after I have come home. So we’ll see about that.

Otherwise you will not really know that I’m gone since I have posts for all the days I did not mention in the upper paragraph. It will be mainly movies but also a game and a book. All posts will be published at the same time, just in different days. The time will be 8:00 AM in the London time zone, meaning that for the Swedish once will see it at 9:00 AM and so on.

I will be responding to comments and everything once I’m home, so comment as much as you feel like but don’t expect any replies before Monday the 7th.  That being said I’ll see you guys in 11 days, so go out and enjoy the sunshine, for those of you that can at least. For the others I hope you will find something fun to do in poor weather and I’ll see you soon.

Spring Breakers

It’s time for some brand new movies again. This is a drama and a comedy movie (tough most won’t find it funny at all because there is nothing funny about it.) Due to the actors (Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine) this movie caused a lot of controversy so I was interested to see what all the fuss was about. We also get to see James Franco looking really unlike himself…

The plot is about four girls who go on their spring break. It all is fun to begin with until things start to get uncomfortable and by uncomfortable I mean jail run-ins and a meeting with a special person who makes the dream spring break into the girl’s worst nightmare.

Judged by the trailer I thought this was going to be pretty Project X like, just another party movie. It was, for the first 25% or something like that. Then the movie get’s a lot more complex and it is not a party movie anymore. I found that to be confusing at first and for the first ten minutes I did not like the new twist at all. Then it keeps improving and the movie turns in to a dark and almost sadistic movie since the characters have put themselves in a situation they are not comfortable with at all.

I found the ending to be amazing and after having finished the movie I was actually pretty happy with the plot. The visuals were also very good, we get to see a lot of vibrant neon colors that I liked since they make the movie a little more special. I’m not really sure about the characters other than I think that they match the plot.

Even though the movie could have been really bad due to the twist, it all turned around for the better, it’s not a revolutionary movie but if you were looking for something outstanding when you were watching it you might have been a tad to positive. So over all it was pretty good and you get a different perspective on the party scene when it takes a turn for the worst. 8 / 10

Carrie

Woho, I have finally read my first Stephen King book, this is something I planned on doing for a long time but I never really got around to actually do it. This thing that motivated me was the upcoming new movie version of Carrie with an actress I really like. If you have missed it I’ll give you the trailer and then you won’t even have to read my plot summary.

Now you technically won’t need the summary but I’ll throw it in here anyway. Carrie is a seventeen-year-old girl who is telekinetic (she can movie things with her mind) and lives with the religious extremist who is also her mother. Carrie has always been bullied and one day it all goes too far and it all ends in a disaster.

Now I can clearly see why Stephen King is so famous, his writing style is pretty special and even though I liked it in the beginning I fund all the different angles I got to read from a bit too much. An example of that would be the last fifty pages which would only have been ten if the perspective didn’t constantly shift. The ending moment or part three of the book is the peak of the plot and I tough that the plot shifts took away a lot of the built up tension even though you learned a lot about the story from them.

The plot on the other hand was really interesting, it was special and I liked how intense it got towards the end. Carrie, the mother and the rest of the characters were phenomenal as well. The mother was really an original individual that contributed to most of the horror elements. Personally I have never really grasped the horror elements in a book. Are they supposed to scare you? Because personally I am never scared, it’s exciting to read horror books tough I’m never scarred and in most cases I would not have known if the book I’m reading is a horror book simply by reading it. I don’t know if it’s just me who feels that way so throw me some responses in the comments so I can understand the horror genre in books better.

In the end Carrie was great in many ways but it failed in the perspectives aspects. I think that this is one of those books that will look great as movies so I am really keeping my fingers crossed when I hit the theaters in October. 8 / 10

My Summer of Love

This is a little treat for anyone who likes Emily Blunt. It’s a romance movie from 2004 starring Mona (Natalie Press) and Tamsin (Emily Blunt) who and just as the title suggests falls for each other during a summer fling.

This review will be very short because I just saw one hour and twenty minutes of utter weirdness that I can’t really make sense of. This is honestly too strange for me to even try to grasp. Nothing about this movie was normal! The characters and their interaction was all confusing and the relationship was all a big mess… if one could even call it a relationship? There were all these religious things going on in the background that seemed really strange to me. The plot made you disorientated, you could not quite understand the twists and the ending was extremely odd, I did actually like the ending since its so strange and pretty special if you ask me.

For the rest of the movie I don’t know what to say, it was so confusing so I can’t put my opinions together. So now I am curious if you have seen the movie and managed to get what the deal was and if you liked it or disliked it because I still don’t really know for myself. In the end I guess I’ll give it a 4 / 10 for the big mess it caused in my head.

Chocolate Muffins with Bananas

I don’t have too much time on my hands today so I’ll be brief. It’s a simple recipe and the idea came from my blueberry and banana muffins.

Oven temperature 175˚C oven time: about 15 minutes

Ingredients:

100 grams of butter

2 eggs

2 ½ deciliters of sugar

A pinch of salt

2 deciliters of flour

1 teaspoon of baking soda

4 tablespoons of cocoa

½ deciliter of milk

2 bananas

  1. Melt the butter and once that is done you pour in the milk, 2 teaspoons of cocoa and ½ deciliter of sugar.
  2. Whisk the eggs and the other 2 deciliters of sugar. Then add all the rest of the dry ingredients and mix while you are pouring down the liquid. Chop the bananas and pour them into the dough. Mix everything carefully with a spoon.
  3. Put paper liners on a tray and fill them with the dough so they are about half full.
  4. Put the tray into the middle of the oven in 175˚C for about 15 minutes.
